New Cinematic Ramayana Adaptation Delivers Grand Spectacle While Avoiding Political Controversy
Bollywood's latest film adaptation of the Ramayana titled Ramayana: The Rise Of A Legend was released worldwide on November 5 and 6, just before Deepavali. Produced on a budget of US$500 million, the movie stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the trilogy's first installment features visual effects by DNEG and aims to present a cautious, politically neutral retelling of the ancient Sanskrit epic that avoids the contentious political landscape surrounding the religious text in modern India.
